Last night we talked about Colossians 2:6-8. Paul warned the church there to not be taken captive by “Hollow and deceptive philosophy” and spoke about “Persuasive reasoning.”
Anytime someone attempts to lie, they’re attempting to present the lie, as truth. Many people today have bought into what’s being sold in our popular culture today. Whether that means giving themselves away in sexual relationships, or using drugs and drinking, or even just trying to climb the social ladder. This is presented as life that has substance, but upon further investigation, we soon discover that they are in fact, hollow.
The good news is that it doesn’t have to stay that way. Paul even said that in Christ dwells the fullness of God. In other words, you don’t have to live an empty life when you can have the fullness of Christ.
Living a life completely devoted to the purposes of God is, I believe, the only life that offers real substance. It offers hope, life, joy, peace, and purpose.
The question is then, are you getting conned? Have you believed a lie? Are you living your life the way you do simply because it’s what you know, or is there perhaps something that you’re missing out on?
Each of us has two options, but only once choice. Let’s choose the life that isn’t hollow, no matter how persuasive it might seem.
